If you’re into gaming even just casually you’ve probably noticed a lot of speculation surrounding Rockstar’s upcoming projects.
While most of the buzz lately has been about GTA 6, there’s also growing discussion about another major sequel: Red Dead Redemption 3.
When Red Dead Redemption 2 launched in 2018, it was praised as one of the most stunning and immersive games ever made. Even years later, fans are still dissecting its intricate world and deep storytelling.
The game, set in 1899 during the tail end of the Wild West, follows Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang. After a botched robbery, Arthur and his gang must fight, steal, and survive across the rugged American frontier.
With such a dedicated fanbase, excitement for another Red Dead installment never fades. Recently, Roger Clark, the actor behind Arthur Morgan, addressed the possibility of a sequel.
In a tweet from December 2023 that has resurfaced among fans, Clark expressed confidence that a third game will happen eventually. However, he also made it clear that Arthur’s story has already been told and that his character is unlikely to return.
“I’m certain we will see RDR3 one day. When that will be I have absolutely no idea. Don’t count on Arthur’s involvement either. His story has been told, I feel,” he wrote.
Instead, a future game could explore characters like Jack Marston, Dutch Van der Linde, or even the mysterious Strange Man. However, with Rockstar currently focused on GTA 6, it may be a long wait before another Red Dead game is announced.
Has Red Dead Redemption 3 Been Confirmed?
As of now, there’s no official confirmation of Red Dead Redemption 3. However, back in October 2023, hints suggested that as long as players remain interested, a sequel is likely.Speaking at the Jefferies Virtual Global Interactive Entertainment Conference, Strauss Zelnick CEO of Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive compared Rockstar’s franchises to long-running entertainment series like James Bond. He stated that if a game is truly great, its legacy will continue.
“If it’s really, really great, it will keep going,” Zelnick said. “You would like every franchise to be James Bond. There are precious few entertainment franchises that fall into that category, but they do exist. I think GTA is one of them, I think Red Dead is one of them.”
Zelnick also emphasized that Rockstar takes time between releases to avoid overusing their intellectual properties and to ensure each game remains a major event.
Adding to the speculation, fans previously noticed a LinkedIn profile update from a Rockstar AI programmer in 2021, stating they had worked on “RDR3” AI development for two years.
For now, Red Dead fans will have to be patient. But with ongoing hints and growing demand, a third game seems inevitable it’s just a matter of when.
